An exhibition of work from Portsmouth City Boys School illustrating their ideas for creating a fun and exciting leisure facility that will mirror the successes of the past

This summer Community Fusion is teaming up with Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust to put on a family event to raise funds to support both community projects within the city.

On Sunday 14^th August, the partners will be hosting an afternoon of entertainment for all the family to enjoy.  With live music from Huw Olesker, Luke Ferre, Lonely Joe Parker and Hannah O’Reilly there will be something for everyone to enjoy.  The event, which runs from 1-6pm, boasts a magician, face painting, raffle and cakes as well as various stalls from local artists and businesses.  Throughout the event there will be a variety of food sizzling away on the BBQ, available to purchase at competitive prices.  You and your family can enjoy a refreshing drink on a summer’s day at the iconic Hilsea Lido site.

There will be no charge for entry but all donations will be welcome.

All money raised will be split between the two organisations that will put it to good use within the community.

Community Fusion:  Portsmouth’s NEW youth volunteering service, directed by young people, for young people and their communities.  Through volunteer projects Community Fusion will work with young people in Portsmouth to improve shared spaces and places, whilst building their life skills creating stronger, prouder communities. (Currently registered as a community interest company: 07577808.  Awaiting confirmation of charity status.)

Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust: Is a registered charity (no 1133714) and has taken ownership of  Hilsea Lido and the Blue Lagoon function suite on a 99 year lease, with the intention of opening Hilsea Lido for public swimming and creating a vibrant cultural, sporting and leisure facility for all the family.

Both organisations are keen to work together, bringing volunteers to the Lido to help restore, redecorate, revive the venue and bring it into the 21^st century while keeping all the features of the art deco structure.  Opening the site for public use is the ultimate aim and together with all other partners we will do this.

GREAT PROGRESS IS BEING MADE!

A vibrant leisure destination is being created in and around Hilsea Lido.  South Coast Wakeboarding and the Adventure College will be moving on site very soon.  Cable wakeboarding will be taking place on the moat next to the Lido and as soon as the pool is operational kayaking, scuba diving and sea survival training will be taking place within the Lido. Water sport enthusiasts and thrill seekers alike will be welcome to take part in these exciting and growing sports, all in one location.  Together with the Adventure College and South Coast Wakeboarding, Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust is confident that Hilsea Lido will become one of Portsmouth’s main leisure and sporting attractions.

Sabrina Richards, Chair of HLPP Trust commented,

“Not only do we want to bring public swimming back to the Lido we want to offer a range of activities for everyone in the community.  We believe that by welcoming South Coast Wakeboarding and the Adventure College to share the facilities we are developing a sustainable future for Hilsea Lido.  We will be providing activities that will be particularly attractive to youngsters and help breath new life into the area. We have worked closely with South Coast Wakeboarding and Adventure College and see the activities they are bringing as a core element of making Hilsea Lido a destination for the whole family”.

Scott Sullivan, the owner of South Coast Wakeboarding, says,

“Hilsea Lido and the area around it is the best kept secret in Portsmouth, if I needed to build a lake for cable wakeboarding I would have built it exactly to the dimensions of the moat.

Kevan Chippindall-Higgin, Managing Director of the Adventure College, says, “We are really excited to be moving into our new base at Hilsea Lido and look forward to working with HLPP Trust and South Coast Wakeboarding to create a Centre of Excellence for Watersports in this unique and special location”

Membership 2011

January 2011 - We have made some great progress over the last year but we could not have done it without our members’ support!

As a member you will be kept informed of our progress and events and receive regular membership newsletters.

Membership and donations are essential to the redevelopment of the Hilsea Lido and without them we would not be able to finance the day to day running of the project.

The Membership costs £7 per person & £5 for seniors or unwaged.

There is still plenty of work to do and we need volunteers to help us with a variety of tasks.  Jobs on the list include cleaning, lifting and moving objects, painting, plumbing, carpentry and gardening
